The Walk to Emmaus is a spiritual renewal program that has as its purpose to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders. The Walk to Emmaus is a 72-hour weekend course in Christianity. The weekend is comprised of fifteen talks by other Christians - lay and clergy - on the themes of God's grace, disciplines of Christian discipleship, and what it means to be the church – the body of Christ. You will spend time in prayer, in worship, and in the daily celebration of Holy Communion. The Emmaus Walk typically begins Thursday evening and concludes early Sunday evening. Men and women attend separate weekends. During and after the three days, participants will be encouraged to meet regularly in accountability groups. This three-day Emmaus experience as well as the accountability groups strengthen and renew Christian people as disciples of Jesus Christ and as active members of the body of Christ in mission to the world. The Walk's purpose is to develop leaders for the local church. This experience will motivate, transform, inspire, challenge, and equip you for Christian action and ministry in your home, your church, you workplace, and your life! CAN I ATTEND? Absolutely! The Walk to Emmaus is open to members of any Christian denomination. The only requirements are: to be a member of a local church; to have a desire to deepen and grow in your spiritual journey; to understand that being a Christian involves responsibility; and have a willing to give your life to God daily. Feel free to contact our pastor if you have questions or would like to attend. All "pilgrims" - those who are attending a walk - are sponsored by a member of the "Emmaus community" - those who have completed a walk and are actively living out their Christian witness through the local church and community. Our pastor can get you connected to one of these following local persons. For more information, go to www.upperroom.org/emmaus OUR MOUNTAINSIDE EMMAUS COMMUNITY
